Here is a TMM summary:
Congrats to all our top ten swimmers in 2010 SCY Season!

Check out this article about Heart Rate During Swimming.  Check out the author!  (No, its not me)

New Members
New Members Jenn Cullen and Shannon Orrell joined us for the St Pete Masters LCM Meet for their first meet as TMMers.  And they both won high point!  Congratulations!  Jenn swims in Lakeland, and trains some with Jay.  Shannon is Jay's sister, and trains in St Pete.  So Jay is the leading TMM recruiter for the summer!

Other new TMMers include  Alexis Mendenall, Andrew Mendenhall, Dale Mulert, and Erin Rosenthal.  Welcome to TMM!

Keep up the recruiting, Jay... and everyone!

Training and Practice Updates
The NTY group is practicing on the usual practice times (Mon - Thurs 6:30 - 8:00pm, Sat 8 - 10am).  Coaching coverage has been a little spotty, but Coach Li gives us some good workouts when he's there Tues and Thurs.  We've also become creative and developed some of our own challenging workouts.  So, if you have a set you want to punish  share with us, or you have a secret desire for swim coaching, come on to practice, and get creative!

NTY will be posting for the job soon if they have not done so already, so I expect the gap in coaching to end soon, although I don't currently have any other real information.

Giveback

Tara Deering is coordinating another Adaptive Team practice with the Masters on Saturday August 28 from 10:15 - 11:15am..  For those of you who have participated in the past please feel free to share your stories with our teammates who maybe thinking of joining.  The purpose of the program is to give these special needs kids and adults the opportunity to learn and improve their strokes.  The most important lesson is to have fun!!!!  It's great to hear the swimmers ask me the next time the team is coming back to help.  They really look foward to your assistance and encouragement!  Also, Tara usually brings bagels for us to eat after breakfast but if someone has a different suggestion just let Tara know(with in reason people she is not a chef...)

PS-in order to volunteer you need to fill out a volunteer application.  Once completed you can give it to me and Tara will make sure it makes it to the right hands.  You will also need to review a computer based program on child abuse.  This can be done at home and does not take along time.  If you have participated in the past without "officially" becoming a volunteer Tara needs you to fill out the application and watch the video as well.

Any questions just ask Tara.

Upcoming Competition and Events

I know its a bit of a slow season for a few months coming up, but now is a good time to work on your weaknesses,  focus on technique, and set a base for the upcoming season. It's important to keep on swimming, but perhaps change the focus a bit for a little tune up, and active recovery.  Personally, I'm adding some triathlons to the schedule in the fall to mix things up, as well as an Open Water swim (anything to avoid working on my turns).  This is also a good time to plan out a bit the schedule for the championship meets over the next year, and see what you can do to make some of the national meets.  Here are some competitions to be thinking about:

Also, for 2011 planning, consider these meets
I expect we'll have a focus again on Y-Nationals since its rather close.  I'll be checking to see what the entry rules for Y-Nats are, since they did open them up to community members last year, and hopefully they'll continue that so that non-Y member TMMers can compete.  Since the LCM championships are at Auburn, again, relatively close, that's another meet to try to add to your schedule in 2011.

See you at pool!
