Training and Practice Updates
Bruce will be reducing coaching hours for personal reasons, coaching on the
deck at New Tampa Y on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday starting next week.
That leaves a couple of options for the Tuesday and Thursday evening practice.
- Open swim, or volunteer coach (one of us), from the pool. If we choose
this, the Y will consider reducing the program fees, and possibly make it a
membership program (like a group exercise class, free to full Y members),
and some reduction in fees for the community members. The Y will continue
to reserve lanes for us. However, we will not be formally coached on
Tuesday or Thursdays with this arrangement, which may be an issue for some
swimmers, especially newer swimmers who can rapidly improve with good
coaching... and have with Bruce.
- Have another experienced swim coach on the deck for Tuesday and
Thursdays. If we chose this, the Y may raise fees, but in turn, would also
add morning practice time at 5:30 or 6:00am with Coach Andrew and Coach Li,
who will be on deck with the kids practices. Many (most?) masters programs
I visit tend to swim early in the morning, and many programs have more than
one coach. The established masters programs often offer more than one
workout per day. This can offer more practices and possibly more convenient
times, since I do know some folks who can only swim early.
So we have some options. There may be more, if you have any ideas, send them
on. Otherwise, let me know your preference.
High
School Meets
The high school swim season starts next week! Remember those days? That also
means there will be high school meets at NTY the next few weeks we have to
contend with:
- Wednesday, Aug 31
- Wednesday, Sept 7
- Wednesday, Sept 14
There may be a few more, but this year Freedom HS is the only team at NTY.
No, I do not know what the impact to Bruce's schedule is.
New
Tampa Y 10th Anniversary Pool Bash!
Come and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the NTY pool on Sunday August 28 1:30
- 3:30pm. They'll have a bounce house, music, games, cake, snacks... bring the
family, and celebrate with swimming a few laps at race pace.
